OCR (Recognise Text)

Turn a scanned or image-only page into selectable, copyable text. Open the toolbar's overflow (3-dot) menu and choose Recognise text on this page.

How it works​

  • Intended for scanned or image-only pages. If the current page has no images, a message notes the text is already selectable and no OCR runs.
  • When the page has images, an overlay OCR screen opens: recognized text is positioned (and rotated to match) on top of the page image, each line lightly highlighted. Long-press to select and copy, or copy the whole page from the toolbar.

Availability​

  • Runs fully on-device — ML Kit on Android, Vision on iOS.
  • Desktop on-device OCR is not available yet; desktop shows a message that it's coming with AI vision OCR.

This is the same overlay screen used by the Document Scanner.
